At Paradigm Treatment Centers, we’re committed to supporting and improving the wellness and quality of life of teens, on all levels. To this end, we incorporate numerous opportunities for healthful, positive, sober activities that add enjoyment to teens’ lives. One such program is our Teen Recreational Therapy program, which is designed to provide teens with opportunities to be outside and active, while experiencing new activities and adventures, while in treatment. We find that our Teen Recreational Therapy has positive physical effects as well as emotional, and provides an excellent supplement to the other aspects of our teen treatment plans, which promote teens’ mental, emotional, physical, relational, and academic health.
Research in the mental health field continues to show the myriad connections between physical health and mental health. In the treatment context, we see first-hand that by promoting and supporting health of the physical body, through things such as our Teen Recreational Therapy and Teen Nutritional programs, teens are better able to engage in therapeutic work, and also benefit from things such as increased energy, improved sleep, reduced stress, and an improved sense of self-worth.
Our Teen Recreational Therapy incorporate many different activities, depending on the location, weather, and local opportunities available. In designing recreational therapy sessions, we also maintain sensitivity and respect toward teens’ different abilities, interests, and limitations and as such, teens are never forced to participate or pushed beyond their limits. We implement these fun activities as a way for teens to enjoy themselves and relax, while also benefitting from exercise. Some of the popular choices we offer at Paradigm Treatment Centers include but are not limited to: hiking, surfing, bike riding, sports, horseback riding, and more.
At Paradigm Treatment Centers, our goal is to integrate all aspects of our teen treatment plans, in order to cumulatively support teens’ optimal health and well-being. By supporting teens’ physical health while helping them to process the deeper aspects of their mental and emotional experiences and struggles, teens are better equipped and more empowered to make insights into themselves that translate to poignant positive change in their lives. In this sense, we’re not only working to help teens heal and recover from symptoms and behaviors, but to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become stronger, more capable people, moving forward.
